Tla’amin has signed a ‘Community Accord‘ as well as a ‘Protocol Agreement on Culture, Heritage and Economic Development‘ with the City of Powell River. Tla’amin has provided input into the City of Powell River’s Official ‘Community Plan’ and has been working collaboratively on a number of economic partnership opportunities with the city. In fact, Tla’amin has partnered directly with the City of Powell River on economic ventures, including joint ownership of several parcels of land within Tla’amin territory and the appointment of 2 directors from the Powell River Regional Economic Development Society to our board, and vice-versa.
Tla’amin has also signed a ‘Protocol Agreement for Communication and Cooperation‘ with the Powell River Regional District, and has been working with the district on harmonizing land use planning efforts. Tla’amin meets with the district and the city for quarterly “G2G” meetings to discuss various items of mutual interest to the 3 governments.
Tla’amin has also executed two ‘Protocol Agreements’ with Catalyst Paper, outlining how the two parties will work together. The agreements have lead to a healthy working relationship and the training and hiring of several Tla’amin members at the Catalyst site.
Last but not least, Tla’amin Nation has executed ‘Protocol Agreements’ with each of the neighboring First Nations with which it has overlapping traditional territories. All of this work and these agreements ensure necessary communication, collaboration and information sharing among the parties and provide the certainty that makes Tla’amin territory attractive to investors.
